Job Description - Spring 2026: Reception and Integration Quality Assurance Intern (Unpaid)

IRC BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading organization providing relief, protection, and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression throughout the U.S. IRC in San Diego has resettled over 31,000 refugees to San Diego County over the past 50 years and provides numerous program services. In San Diego, the IRC opened its doors in 1975 and has grown to serve approximately 7,000 refugee and immigrant individuals from 115 countries of origin each year through 5 different departments.  

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: In this internship, students will gain exposure to the operations of a large international organization while applying Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) concepts, processes, and tools to measure the project's success in a practical way. This intern will specifically support the San Diego office’s Reception and Integration case management and supportive services with quality assurance initiatives.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist the Reception and Integration Senior Program Manager with client feedback surveys.  

  • Implement document storage policy changes to better protect client personally identifiable information.  

  • Conduct case file audits to ensure documentation compliance with program requirements. 

  • Assist with grant reporting.  

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  

Students will gain experience in planning and executing MEAL activities, which are critical for project success; 

Students will learn best practices for engaging directly with clients to incorporate their feedback into program design; 

Students will gain an understanding of the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database and case file documentation processes; and   

Students will develop an in-depth understanding of IRC Resettlement, Asylum, & Integration programming. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Currently enrolled graduate student or undergraduate student in a related field of International Relations/Development, Social Work, Global Human Resources, Learning and Development, Non-Profit Management, International Business, or related field; 

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively; 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); 

  • Willingness to work on different types of tasks and projects; 

  • English fluency ; and 

  • Experience with MEAL-related initiatives is a plus. 

This position reports to the Reception and Integration Senior Program Manager 

 

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship opportunity. 

 

Working Environment:   

  • This position is in-person at our City Heights office. 

  • Must be able to complete work during business hours Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm. No shifts will be scheduled outside of these business hours.
