JOB DESCRIPTION

Student-Career Peer Advisor- NTC Career Service (Work Study) 2026-27 Academic Year 

Newcomb-Tulane College Career Services employs a diverse team of responsible, motivated, and dynamic Career Peers.

Vision Statement: Equitably empower students throughout their unique career journeys. 

As a Career Peer you will: 

• Host drop-in hours to meet with students one-on-one to share career resources and advice.


• Note: Training for all duties will be provided


• Provide feedback on and approve student resumes and cover letters in Handshake


• Provide support during career events.


• Create, implement, communicate and lead programs and outreach


• Serve as an ambassador of the NTC Career Services through tasks such as tabling, presenting to course sections and/or student orgs


• Assist full-time staff members with ongoing projects

In addition, all Career Peers will: 

• Start work during the Fall 2026 semester with the expectation of employment during 2026-2027 academic year.


• Work up to 10 hours per week, including self-scheduled office hours and flexible out-of-office program hours as well as some virtual hours.


• Work occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed, to implement effective programming and outreach, pending your course schedule.


• Attend mandatory weekly Career Peer Team meetings and regular one-on-one check-ins with program supervisors.


• Have the opportunity to work on additional projects of interest.


• Respect office policies and procedures and meet expectations for professionalism and customer service.

• Approachable and friendly demeanor, with a strong customer service orientation


• Desire to improve leadership skills


• Commitment to advancing equitable opportunity for everyone 


• Empathic nature: must have strong people and relationship-nurturing skills


• Be a team player: Career Peers should be able to collaborate effectively and generously as part of a team with diverse students, staff, faculty and community partners


• Strong oral and written communication, and public speaking skills


• Ability to prioritize tasks


• Good time-management skills – be punctual, timely, and deadline-oriented


• Ability to balance professional and personal boundaries

"Nice to have” Qualifications: 

• Working knowledge of campus cultures, departments, student organizations, and other resources relevant to Career Services


• Experience with Canva and Microsoft Box


• Comfortable speaking to small and large groups while delivering career presentations and/or workshops.

Eligibility: 

• Limited to applicants that have an accepted Federal Work Study (FWS) award.


• Please include a copy of your FWS award as part of your application. It can be submitted as a document in Handshake.


• Must be enrolled as a student at Tulane for at least 12 academic credits throughout the year


• Must be in good academic standing for the term prior to selection and during entire period of employment

Training & Pay: 

• Career Peer Advisors will earn a starting rate of $13.00 per hour for work completed


• Career Peer Advisors must be available to attend continuing education throughout each semester
