Department: Emergency Management 

 

Hourly Wage: $15 per hour

 

Duties: The USF department of Emergency Management (DEM) provides opportunities to federal work study students to work with DEM on the Tampa Campus. This opportunity is designed to enhance a student’s experience in the emergency management field through involvement with emergency management programs and networking. Daily responsibilities relate to prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery efforts at USF. 



Responsibilities
  • Develop/Review emergency plans/policies.

  • Development outreach materials for emergency management preparedness and response programs and participate in educational outreach. 

  • Patriciate in meetings with representatives from the local, state, federal, non-profit, and private sector emergency management community.

  • Develop and participate in drills and exercises to practice emergency response procedures. 

  • Research within the field of Emergency Management.

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Average Number of Hours per Week: 20 hours per week

 

Schedule: Flexible around class schedule within business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday, with in-person, in-office attendance



Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  Applicant must be a currently enrolled USF student and have a current Federal Work Study (FWS) award for 2026-2027 to be considered for this position. Applicants are asked to demonstrate proof of their FWS award by printing their “Award Offer” screen from Student Self-Service.

Preferred Qualifications: Students pursuing a career in emergency/disaster management, homeland security, criminal justice, or another related field and have strong written communication skills. This position will report to the Director of Emergency Management 

Special Skills: General computer and administrative skills, including detail-oriented processes. Quick learner of new computer systems.
