Job Description - SULI - CSE- Gettelman, Sophie - 2.27.26

One of the most promising platinum group metals (PGM)-free oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts that may find practical application in the polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) technology is the iron carbon nitrogen (Fe-N-C) materials. Significant progress has been made in recent years in developing better Fe-N-C materials for catalyzing the ORR occurring at the cathode of PEFCs. However, further improvement in the catalysts both activity and, especially, durability is still necessary for practical applications. The purpose of the project is to develop novel synthesis methods guided by ML/AI for making PGM-free catalysts that are expected to have both further enhanced ORR activity and stability. The student will mostly be involved in experimental work in the laboratory, with focus on catalyst material synthesis characterization. It includes fabrication of precursors, catalyst, and catalyst electrode form, performing electrochemical characterization as well as other material property characterization. The student will also perform data processing and analysis interpretation
