Field-deployed sensors stream live data into edge computing for local data processing and decision making. Pre-filtering data stream to obtain science-relevant data points is the key to save computing energy in edge computing and network burden when transferring the data to cloud. The project develops a Python-based simulation that evaluates data sampling and processing strategies under various data streams that represent dynamic environment model. The student will work with the project mentor and a Ph. D. student at Northwestern University to implement the simulation and support evaluation and analysis on simulation results.

Education and Experience Requirements

•The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States.

•Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.

•Applicants must be:

‒Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution

‒Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or

‒Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution
