Shelby County State Bank (SCSB) is excited to offer an internship opportunity for a motivated student interested in exploring a career in community banking. This internship reports directly to the Training Manager and provides mentorship from leaders across the organization. Interns will gain hands-on experience in multiple areas of banking while bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to the team.

JOB TYPE

Full- time intern (10-12 weeks) from May-August, located in Harlan, Iowa.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Applicants should be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s (B.A. or B.S.) or associate degree program in any field of study. They should be familiar with Microsoft Office programs and demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional setting. A willingness to learn, along with a positive and team-oriented attitude, is essential.

INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES:

• Learn the roles within Retail, Lending, Operations, Finance, Marketing, and Management
• Develop customer service skills and gain insight into creating an excellent customer experience.
• Contribute fresh perspectives on existing procedures and projects.
• Understand the values of community banking: Family, Service, and Community.
• Work with mentors for professional development and career guidance.
• Participate in personal and professional development events in collaboration with other Iowa bank internship programs and possibly through the Iowa Bankers Association Internship Program.
• Work on bank projects to provide fresh insight from their college experience and perspective.
• Volunteer in community events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The intern will primarily work in a professional office setting at SCSB’s headquarters in downtown Harlan, Iowa. Occasional travel may be required to other branch offices across Western Iowa or Omaha, NE to Des Moines for internship-related events. The intern may also be asked to represent SCSB at community activities such as parades, fairs, or other local events.
