Therapy Intern (Semester - Only, Unpaid)

JOB SUMMARY

This position will learn about infant and early childhood mental health to address child abuse & neglect, trauma (including relationship trauma), and behavioral issues utilizing skills developed through observing evidence-based therapeutic modalities under the supervision of a licensed therapist within the Therapeutic Services Program. Services may occur in-office, via telehealth or at a pre-approved, alternative community location.

This position is observation-only; Intern will not hold a caseload, will not have access to the Electronic Health Record, and will not be able to record sessions. This role does not guarantee employment upon completion of the internship. This role is for educational purposes only and does not replace an employee’s position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Observe protective parenting group intake assessments.
2. Observe protective parenting groups and individual parent education.
3. Observe and co-lead (under the supervision of an onsite licensed therapist) therapeutic sessions utilizing evidence-based modalities.
4. Engage in professional learning opportunities particularly in the areas of IECMH and trauma. 
5. Develop an understanding of reflective supervision, vicarious trauma, and how to consistently incorporate self-care strategies.
6. Assist with other duties as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Currently engaged in a master’s degree program in Social Work, Counseling, Community Mental Health or another related field with plans to seek licensure as LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or other related mental health licensure.
2. Excellent communication skills, writing skills, and ability to communicate with different audiences.
3. Proficient computer skills (ex. Excel, word, & other Microsoft platforms); good organizational skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Working knowledge of family systems, trauma, attachment theory, and treatment strategies for infants, children, and caregivers.
2. Experience and interest in working with children ages 0-12, caregivers, and families.
3. Experience and interest in collaborating with child welfare & the juvenile court.
