Tool Room Assistant

Leonhardt Manufacturing is looking for a dependable, hands-on individual to assist in our Tool Room with general machining, tooling, and shop support activities.

This is a part-time position and may be a good fit for someone currently enrolled in a technical or machining program who is looking to gain additional hands-on manufacturing experience.

Schedule: Part-time, with scheduling flexibility based on availability between 5am-3:30pm, Mon-Thur.

Responsibilities

• Assist Tool Room personnel with general machining and tooling work


• Operate basic manual machining equipment under appropriate supervision


• Assist with drilling, cutting, grinding, deburring, and other general machining operations


• Help fabricate, modify, and repair fixtures, tooling, and miscellaneous shop components


• Measure parts using basic inspection and measuring tools


• Assist with preventative maintenance and minor repairs on tooling and equipment


• Organize tooling, materials, and supplies within the Tool Room


• Maintain a clean and orderly work area


• Help retrieve, move, and return tooling and materials as needed


• Follow company safety procedures and proper equipment operating practices


• Perform other Tool Room and manufacturing support duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Interest in machining, manufacturing, maintenance, or skilled trades


• Previous machining or shop experience is helpful but not required


• Technical school coursework in machining, manufacturing, welding, maintenance, or a related field is a plus


• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to work with hand and power tools


• Ability to read a tape measure and use basic measuring equipment


• Willingness to learn and follow instructions


• Dependable with good attendance


• Ability to work safely and independently

Physical Demands

This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working around manufacturing equipment. The employee must be able to use hand and power tools, handle tooling and materials, and perform the physical tasks necessary to safely complete Tool Room work. The position may require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling materials and equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and is exposed to non-air-conditioned areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate where hearing protection is necessary based on OSHA requirements.
