University Intern

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking motivated, talented, and career-focused students to join our 2027 Hope Gas Summer Internship Program. This ten-week, hands-on learning experience provides students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a professional environment while gaining valuable industry experience. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals on meaningful projects that directly support business operations and strategic initiatives. In addition to department-specific assignments, interns will participate in professional development activities, networking opportunities, and exposure to company leadership.

Interns will contribute to meaningful projects in one of the following departments:

• Finance – Assist with budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and market analysis.


• Accounting – Assist with projects and gain experience in managing records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles.


• Regulatory – Assist with projects and reporting to ensure compliance with federal and state utility regulations while supporting filings and policy initiatives.


• Human Resources (HR) – Gain experience in talent acquisition, total rewards, employee relations, and payroll/HRIS.


• Engineering – Work on infrastructure projects, system optimization, and safety compliance initiatives.


• Communications – Develop content, support branding efforts, and assist with internal and external communication strategies.


• Supply Chain – Assist with inventory management, procurement activities, vendor coordination, logistics planning, and process improvement initiatives that support operational efficiency.


• Environmental/GIS – Support environmental compliance, data collection and analysis, mapping projects, geographic information systems (GIS) applications, and sustainability initiatives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with department teams to work on impactful projects.


• Conduct research, analyze data, and present findings.


• Participate in professional development workshops and networking events.


• Engage in cross-functional learning opportunities with interns from other departments.


• Support day-to-day operational tasks and contribute innovative ideas.


• Responsible for end of program capstone project

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The team member in this role will:

• Serve as an Individual Contributor without supervisory responsibilities.


• Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to quickly learn new software.


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.


• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.


• Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and willingness to learn.


• Ability to research, interpret, and apply information relevant to assigned projects.


• Minimum sophomore standing by Summer 2027


• Rising juniors preferred


• Ability to work onsite at one of our West Virginia locations for the duration of the program

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in a related field


• Prior internship or work experience is not required; however, relevant coursework, student projects, or campus involvement will be considered a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS     

The ideal candidate must be able to complete the following physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation:

• Remain stationary for extended periods, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities.


• Lift, push, and/or pull up to 25 lbs. occasionally.


• Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery as necessary.


• Communicate with others to accurately exchange information and ideas.


• Hear sufficiently to allow general and phone communications.


• Visual acuity to read standard text on screens and documents, observe surroundings, recognize hazards, and perform tasks safely.


• Observe details at close range. 


• Problem solve, prioritize tasks, and interpret and understand written documents.

WORK CONTEXT 

• This is a full-time non-exempt hourly position.


• This is a temporary position.


• Minimum travel for work-related purposes is expected at approximately 10%, which includes visits to locations and industry events.
