Job Description - 2026-27 Before and After School Care Assistant (Part-Time)


Job Type: Part-Time

Pay: $13.50-$15.00/hr
This is a school year position offered from late July until End of May. Summer positions are offered internally and require an additional form given in April. 

Position Details 

  • Title: Program Teacher Assistant 
  • Department: Teachers 
  • Reports To: Supervisor 
  • Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt 

Available Hours: 

  • Monday–Friday: 6:30/6:45–9:30 AM & 3:15/3:25–6:00 PM 
  • Fall and Spring Break hours are essential and required for some availability. 
  • Winter Break is typically covered by our supervisor and lead facilitator staff, but hours can be requested. 
  • Time off can be requested as needed and should be scheduled thoughtfully to avoid frequent or repeated absences. 

Position Summary
The Teacher Assistant supports the Before and After School Program by helping create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for students in grades K–6. This role is ideal for a motivated individual who enjoys working with children and contributing to their academic and social growth. 

Working under the direction of the Supervisor, the Teacher Assistant helps implement enrichment activities, assists with student homework, and promotes a positive, structured, and character-focused environment that supports student participation and well-being. 

 

Teacher Assistant Duties 

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
 

General Program Responsibilities 

  • Organize and facilitate a variety of daily activities including academic enrichment, physical activity, homework support, and creative arts. (Lesson Plans should be given to you each day by your supervisor). 
  • Serve as a positive role model by consistently demonstrating and guiding students in character development through actions, activities, and meaningful conversations. 
  • Demonstrate respect for all spaces, equipment, and materials used during the program. Ensure all areas are properly maintained and left in the condition they were found, including classrooms, shared school spaces, buses, and field trip locations. 
  • Work collaboratively with the program team to supervise up to 100 students throughout the daily program. Individual staff groups typically consist of approximately 15–20 students. 
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities, staff meetings, and trainings to support program quality and personal growth. 

Student Management and Positive Relationships 

  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where all students feel valued. 
  • Guide student behavior positively, setting clear expectations and addressing concerns calmly. 
  • Build strong relationships and promote teamwork, kindness, and respect through activities. 
  • Ensure student safety, supervision, and adherence to staff-to-student ratios at all times. 

Relationships and Communication 

  • Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with school staff, supervisors, parents, and students. 
  • Communicate openly about student updates, achievements, and concerns, and collaborate on solutions when challenges arise. 
  • Foster a respectful, trustworthy, and supportive environment with colleagues and students. 

Requirements

 

Meetings, Certifications, and Trainings 

  • Attendance at all required staff meetings and trainings is mandatory. 
  • Whole staff meetings are typically held 1–2 times per semester
  • Required certifications include First Aid and any additional trainings required by the program or state guidelines.

Evaluations 

  • Supervisors conduct staff evaluations once per 9 weeks through a one-on-one meeting. 
  • Honey Grove Administration will send out surveys once annually for an end-of-year review and overall performance assessment.

  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality while being flexible to meet program needs. 
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with students, parents, and colleagues. 
  • Approach every situation with kindness, patience, and a positive attitude.
