Accompanist (Part-Time)

AMDA, The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, in the heart of New York City, is one of the foremost performing arts conservatories in the country with a sister campus in Hollywood. AMDA offers multiple programs from numerous two- and three-year conservatory programs and degree programs in Musical Theatre, Acting, and Dance.

AMDA is seeking part-time Piano Accompanists with outstanding professional experience, specializing in the Musical Theatre canon; experience in Classical Repertoire, Pop/Rock, Blues is a plus. Applicants should have experience accompanying individuals as well as group ensembles. Applicants must be proficient sight-readers. Ability to transpose on sight is preferred but not necessarily required. Applicants should be strongly committed to providing support in an educational environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Accompany individuals and group ensembles in classes and other educational settings
• Sight-read musical material and support students and faculty during instruction
• Contribute to a professional, supportive classroom environment

Qualifications:

Performance Credentials

• AMDA differentiates itself from other performing arts colleges by having students learn from working faculty and accompanists. Applicants must have professional experience within the industry; preference will be given to those with recent / current performance credits. 
• Experience teaching musicianship, piano, and sight singing is a plus. 

Teaching Credentials

• Professional-level teaching plus a willingness to learn curriculum-specific material, is required. 
• Applicants will have experience in providing and maintaining a professional atmosphere within the classroom.
• Successful applicants will have demonstrated an ability to work effectively with diverse populations and varying proficiency levels.
• Applicants will be able to communicate with students in a positive and effective manner. 

Employment Credentials

• Professional accompaniment credentials, plus experience in the classroom a plus. 

Position Information:

• $35-$55 per accompanist hour
• This position is a part time (up to 29 hours per week), in-person commitment.

Administrative tasks assigned outside of classroom teaching hours will be paid at a standard hourly rate of $35.
