Convenience Center Custodian (Part-time)

JOB SUMMARY

The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for the part-time position of Convenience Center Custodian. This position is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and organized recycling centers for employees and the public. This position performs routine custodial duties, assists with site upkeep, monitors recycling areas for cleanliness and safety, and provides courteous customer service to residents using the facilities. 

MAJOR DUTIES

1. Opens and closes entrance gates to assigned convenience centers. Travels between centers multiple times per shift. 
2. Maintains cleanliness around recycling containers and removes loose debris and improperly discarded materials. Blows off and sweeps the convenience center parking area. 
3. Compacts garbage container on every trip. Unclogs compactor as needed.
4. Monitors the centers for safety hazards and reports maintenance or repair needs to supervisor.
5. Performs maintenance pre-check on assigned vehicles. Fills up gasoline tank every shift.
6. Reports illegal dumping activity to proper authorities.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

1. Knowledge of county and department rules and regulations. 
2. Knowledge of solid waste disposal rules.
3. Knowledge of workplace safety practices.
4. Skill in oral and written communication.
5. Skill in interpersonal relations. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
• The work is typically performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity. 
• The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, odor, grease and machinery with moving parts. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• More than one (1) year of related experience preferred.
• Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

COMPENSATION AND WORK SCHEDULE

• The Convenience Center Custodian works up to 28 hours per week. Work may include weekends.
• As a part-time position, there are no benefits.
