Counselor Substance Use Disorder Part-Time Weekends

Mission Statement and Vision of Holman Recovery Center:

This position is Part-time THURSDAY - SUNDAY

The SUDP counselor is responsible for organizing and providing direct counseling services to patients in the residential setting. The SUDP provides services to patients including but not limited to program orientation, individual counseling, group therapy, assessments, evaluation, and intakes. Applicants are expected to subscribe to the disease concept of substance use disorder (SUD) with the belief that total abstinence is required for ongoing recovery from alcoholism and other drug addiction. 

The SUDP counselor will work in multiple areas of treatment including but not limited to:

• Screening and evaluation of individuals and refers them as needed to other treatment/service programs available in the facility and in the community. 


•  Program orientation to individuals and families.


• Provides biopsychosocial assessments and updates as needed. 


• Provides individual/group counseling for individuals in the process of discovering and dealing with substance related problems and emerging mental health issues. 


• Serves as the primary case manager.  


• Maintains professional standards and follows the treatment policies and procedures of the facility, and of the federal, state, and local regulations. 


•  Has a thorough working knowledge of appropriate Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and Revised Code of Washington (RCW).


• Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized treatment plans based on ASAM criteria. 


• Coordinates and cooperates with staff or other agencies and organizations to expedite treatment for each patient and for their continuum of care. 


• Attends regular staff meetings and in-service trainings for clinical personnel. 


• Maintains accurate and current records on each patient in accordance with ASAM and according to the facility's procedure for patient records. 


• Prepares progress reports and provides them to the courts, probation departments, families, and referral sources when appropriate. 


• Advocates for the patient and the family. 


• When assigned a Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT), the SUDP will provide direct supervision and tutoring, and document all required activities. limited to review, sign, and date all: assessments, treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, progress notes, discharge plans, discharge summaries and any other documentation entered in each patient's record by the SUDPT. 


• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Clinical Director.

LANGUAGE SKILLS • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules or policy & procedure manuals.  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  • Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS • Ability to calculate figures and amounts including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and percentages.  

REASONING ABILITY • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Education and Experience, Certificates, and Licenses:

• Washington State Department of Health certification as a Substance Use Disorder Professional or Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee 


• AA degree in substance use disorder studies or related human service including the required certificate that qualifies them to be a SUDP (or SUDPT) with BA preferred.


• At least one year of experience as a SUDP (or SUDPT) strongly preferred.
