Crisis Consultation & Referral Team Counselor (part-time)

The CAPS Crisis Consultation & Referral Team (CCRT) Counselor is a clinical position in BYU’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) office. This position provides crisis services, one-time consultation appointments, and case management referral services to students. The role requires strong crisis assessment and intervention skills, relationship-building abilities, and effective collaboration with CAPS staff, university stakeholders, and community providers. This role also includes provision of both employment and clinical supervision to trainees, making management and supervision skills essential. The successful candidate must adhere to ethical, legal, professional, and CAPS standards.

Note: This is a part-time position 17.5 hours per week.

What you’ll do in this position:

  • Provide walk-in crisis and triage services, including safety/threat assessments and safety planning
  • Offer one-time urgent care and consultation appointments with treatment planning and referral support
  • Assist with post-hospitalization referrals and connect students to appropriate university and community resources
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community providers; manage referral database
  • Educate students on navigating insurance and financial assistance options
  • Maintain electronic medical records according to professional standards
  • Provide clinical supervision and training for CCRT trainees
  • Participate in CAPS staff and committee meetings

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field
  • Licensed or license-eligible in Utah as a social worker, counselor, or other relevant license
  • Ability to work effectively with students in crisis situations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer proficiency (Windows, EMR systems)

Preferred

  • 2+ years of post-licensure experience in crisis care and case management, ideally in a university counseling center
  • Knowledge of human development and the promotion of healthy growth in college student populations
  • Experience with referrals and case management for severe or potentially life-threatening psychological conditions
  • Previous crisis treatment experience
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills with community providers
  • Crisis Experience, LCSW/CMHC, Certified Social Worker

Pay Grade: 52


Typical Starting Pay: $31.50 - $40.75
