Position Title: Food Pantry Associate (Part Time)

Reports to: Food Pantry Manager

Pay Rate: $19 -$21 per hour

This is a part-time non-exempt position. Compensation is commensurate with experience and aligned with the organization’s salary structure and budget.

About the Organization:

The Samaritan Inn was founded in 1984 as a 10-bed single men’s homeless shelter. Since then, it has grown to become one of the largest shelters for our unhoused neighbors in North Texas. We serve single men, women, and families, with the capacity to serve up to 226 residents. We ensure housing stability through prevention, access, and comprehensive support, affirming dignity, strengthening independence, and cultivating a community rooted in care.

Summary of the Job:

The Food Pantry Associate is responsible for helping to deliver the organization’s food assistance programs. This includes our grocery-store-style food pantry, as well as mobile distributions and other external food distribution events.

Essential Functions:

Assist clients with the food assistance process, from the initial contact through the entire shopping experience

Ensure the pantry is fully stocked

Assist with all necessary cleaning and organization of the pantry, including refrigerators, freezers, shelves, and storage areas

Assist with food loading and unloading

Assist with reviewing and sorting incoming donations

Direct volunteers in proper processes and procedures

Work with clients to ensure an orderly shopping environment

Open and close the pantry as needed

Perform other duties as requested

Required Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum 2 years of experience with food stocking and/or food handling

Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred

Pallet jack experience is a plus

Soft Skills & Core Competencies:

Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively

Demonstrated commitment to serving vulnerable populations with dignity and respect

Work Environment:

Fast-paced, emotionally demanding environment requiring empathy, patience, and resilience

Ability to work occasional hours outside of the standard weekly schedule

Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds

Compensation & Benefits:

This position receives paid time off, but as a part-time position does not qualify for benefits.
