Overview: The Historian will be responsible for conducting a reconnaissance-level survey of above-ground historic resources at the Avian Disease and Oncology Laboratory (ADOL) property. This role involves documenting, evaluating, and preparing a comprehensive historic narrative and context for the property in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Job Title: Historian Location: East Lansing, Michigan Key Responsibilities:
Perform a detailed survey of all above-ground historic resources on the ADOL property.
Document the historic narrative and thoroughly develop the historic context of the property.
Review property records provided by the USDA-ARS Midwest Area office and local repositories.
Gather historic information from primary and secondary sources, including maps, aerial photographs, and federal, state, and local records.
Qualifications:
Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for History or Architectural History (36 CFR Part 61).
Expertise in conducting reconnaissance-level surveys and preparing historic narratives.
Strong knowledge of NRHP eligibility criteria and documentation standards.
Excellent research, analytical, and documentation skills.
Proficient in historical documentation and evaluation.
