Job Description Summary

The temporary Interim Regional Coordinator of Disability Services is responsible for implementing reasonable accommodations for students registered with Student Disability Services (SDS). The temporary coordinator provides direct service to students to include reviewing documentation, determining eligibility for services and reasonable accommodation strategies, communication of accommodations and outreach to faculty and university resources. The temporary coordinator will work under the direction of the Director of the Miller Center for Student Disability Services.

Job Description

Coordinate, deliver and monitor disability services to qualified students according to federal mandated guidelines at Miami’s campuses in Hamilton, Middletown, and West Chester. Review and interpret student medical records, including psychoeducational evaluations, to determine eligibility for services, facilitate registration, and implement appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities. Maintain documentation in SDS’s electronic case management system in a confidential manner and retain records consistent with the records retention policy established for the office. Consult with and serve as liaison for faculty, staff, and other campus departments to coordinate reasonable accommodations; collaborate to deliver academic adjustments, mediate issues and work with campus administration to resolve grievances.

Provide the system for testing accommodations for students registered with Disability Services, including exam proctoring. Consult and meet with prospective students and parents, psychologists and other professional agencies regarding documentation guidelines and provision of academic adjustments and accommodations. 

Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in special education, rehabilitation, counseling, psychology, social work, sociology or related field required. Experience working with persons with disabilities; use of accessible technology; and ability to read and interpret diagnostic tests and psychoeducational evaluations.

Consideration may be given to individuals with work experience in higher education; knowledge of applicable laws that ensure equal access to students, including Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) and ADAAA (2009), the Telecommunication Act of 1996 as well as knowledge of accessible technology best practices such as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.
