• Evaluates the effectiveness of breastfeeding relationships, nursing staff knowledge, and products, literature, and equipment used by clients.
• Assesses patient knowledge of breastfeeding and effectiveness of newborn breastfeeding behaviors, teaching these skills to the mother.
• Participates in follow-up care through phone calls, educational/support groups, and possible home health visits.
• Promotes and participates in hospital and departmental quality programs, developing and evaluating quality improvement projects related to patient outcomes and lactation.
• Maintains clinical competency in lactation through ongoing education, seminars, classes, and conference attendance.
• Assures current information in policies, procedures, and protocols affecting infant nutrition and breastfeeding needs.
• Collaborates with perinatal educators, staff, and administrative teams to promote and coordinate services for childbearing families.
• Provides in-service and continuing education for nursing staff and other hospital staff as needed, acting as an ongoing resource and assisting in staff orientation.
• Supports and participates in organized community efforts to promote breastfeeding and assists outpatient childbearing families with education and resources.
• Implements plans of care to ensure optimal newborn nutrition and provide supportive, responsive, and non-judgmental communication with patients and families.
• Prepares and communicates appropriate plans of care for breastfeeding mothers and infants, including those with special needs, to patients, partners, and nursing staff.
• Other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
• Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) - 12 Hours
7a or 7p shift option
Education:
• Associate's of Nursing [Preferred]
• Technical/Vocational School [Required]
Work Experience:
• Clinical experience [Preferred]
• Demonstrated expertise in the care of breastfeeding mothers, normal newborns, advocacy for breastfeeding and positive interpersonal relationships [Required]
Licenses and Certifications:
• Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) [Required] OR International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant IBCLC [Required]
• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
