Middle School Learning Specialist (Part Time)

The role of the WDS Learning Specialist is to support the school’s range of learners, particularly those with documented learning differences.

This is a part time role, approximately 15-20 hours per week, schedule to be determined. 

About the School 

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor. 

Responsibilities include:

• Working with students in small groups
• Providing support to students in the pull-out and consultancy formats
• Acting as a case manager for students with individualized learning plans
• Providing curriculum support as well as skills-based remediation
• Developing and teaching curriculum that focuses on executive functioning skills
• Communicating and collaborating with classroom teachers, Principal, School Psychologist, and Social Worker
• Supporting classroom teachers to differentiate instruction for a variety of learning styles and how to implement accommodations in the classroom
• Proactively participating in and contributing to the development of the Learning Center by providing new directions, reviewing curriculum and suggesting improvements, advocating for academically vulnerable students, and participating in ongoing professional development
• Observing, assessing, and analyzing data on student performance and keeping records on student’s progress towards meeting learning goals
• Communicating with parents about learning strategies implemented in Learning Center and throughout WDS for relevant students
• Participating in the Child Study Team

• Finds joy in working with children and participating in school life, is kind and possesses a healthy sense of humor
• Comfortable using technology in the classroom and accessing school-based learning portals
• Sustained, successful teaching experience with students with learning differences
• Knowledgeable about current evidence-based teaching practices
• Organizational skills to maintain documentation tracking interventions, as well as to assist students with executive functioning skills
• Skilled in communications and interpersonal relations with children and adults
• Masters degree in special education or learning disabilities
• ESL experience a plus

Salary range for this role is $35,000- $45,000, depending upon education and experience.
