Salary Range
$92,000.00 - $146,750.00Overview
This position will provide nursing and medical support for research subjects undergoing studies at the Yale Behavioral Pharmacology Laboratory. Studies focus on the behavior and treatment of addictive disorders. This position is clinically oriented and will perform tasks such as medical exams, blood draws, blood processing, prescribing and administering study medications, monitoring adverse events and vitals, and obtaining EKG’s. The nurse will act as the clinical liaison between the study participant, investigative team, and the PI. May serve additional roles as required by the PI.
1. Identifies, assesses eligibility, enrolls and collects accurate medical and demographic history on research subjects for a variety of studies.
2. Obtains, compiles, and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination.
3. Performs medical exam and prescribes study medications.
4. Obtains and explains written consent for subject participation.
5. Coordinates patient care including ordering of laboratory tests and interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
6. Provides direct clinical services to subjects, observes subjects and notifies study team to any medical or emotional change.
7. Conducts patient and research subject evaluations, administers medication and research instruments, and presents data.
8. Reviews codes and contributes to the entering of all collected patient data to assure completeness and accuracy.
9. Ensures regulatory compliance by maintaining clinical and nursing records to meet the needs of various protocols.
10. Maintains the integrity of the clinical research study by striving to advocate for patients.
11. May perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Teamwork and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work constructively toward a team goal.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
3. Proven ability with phlebotomy and placement of peripheral IV lines.
4. Familiarity with clinical research methodology, and ability to follow IRB-approved trial protocols.
5. Strong clinical skills in patient assessment, and prescribing related to research activities.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
Master’s Degree from an accredited Advanced Nurse Practitioner program. Required License(s) or Certification(s) CT APRN license (or eligible). Prescriptive privileges (or eligible) in the State of Connecticut.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Examines patients to collect information about their physical condition and establishes a clinical diagnosis. 2. Conducts physicals, provides treatment, formulates a health care plan and counsels patients on various health practices. 3. Encourages compliance with treatments plan through education, assessment of patient understanding and regular patient monitoring. 4. Provides reasonable and prudent medical care, practices appropriate management, and uses sound clinical judgment based on best practice standards and evidenced based medicine. 5. Obtains, compiles, and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination. 6. Provides preventive health practices to patients to maintain and improve health and prevent illness. 7. Coordinates patient care including ordering of laboratory tests and radiographic studies. 8. Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal. 9. Prescribes therapy or medication as necessary. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.
