Occupational Therapist II - NBMC (Part Time, Day)

At NorthBay Health, the Occupational Therapist II works in accordance with his/her evaluation findings and the physician’s referral, plans and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team. 

Primary Job Duties

1. Provides occupational therapy services in inpatient settings during assigned shift during department operating hours, including assignment in rotation of weekend and holiday coverage.
2. On physician’s referral, evaluates patients, develops specific treatment plans and goals, administers procedures and modalities specific to the learning needs and age of the patient, and plans for discharge utilizing appropriate Occupational Therapy techniques. 
3. Acts as a case manager for assigned patients.          
4. Prepares and maintains accurate and current patient records in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. 
5. Re-evaluates and revises patient’s treatment plan on a regular basis, with approval of physician as necessary.
6. Provides patient, family/caregivers with age-appropriate instruction regarding therapy procedures and home program, and provides additional instruction as indicated.
7. Instructs the patient and family/caregiver in care and use of assistive and adaptive equipment. 
8. Communicates with rehabilitation team members, family, physicians and third party payers regarding patient progress and program changes as appropriate.
9. Attends and/or participates inter/intradepartmental in-services and meetings as required and appropriate. 
10. Participates in short and long-term program development, including participation on committees as requested.
11. Participates in student intern and/or volunteer program as appropriate.
12. Provides supervision to occupational therapist assistant. 
13. If working in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, all notes in medical record must be co-signed by a CCS paneled occupational therapist. 
14. Maintains clean, safe and orderly treatment areas and equipment.  Reports to supervisor any problems or suggestions regarding safety in the workplace. 
15. Assists with orientation and supervision of other health care professionals as appropriate.
16. Establishes and maintains effective communication with physicians, co-workers, patients and other hospital personnel.
17. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops within assigned specialty areas.
18. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
2. Licensure/Certifications:  Current California Occupational Therapy license is required. NBCOT Certification is required. CHT, Physical Agent Modalities (PAM ), Advanced Practitioner certification, or Advanced Practitioner certification in Hands preferred. Current AHA or equivalent BLS certification. If working in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, CCS paneling is preferred or must be applied for once eligible. 
3. Experience: One year professional experience required, preferably in an acute hospital.
4. Skills:  Good basic clinical skills in occupational therapy evaluation and treatment. Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric. Knowledge of existing laws and regulations governing the practice of Occupational Therapy

5. Standards of Performance: Demonstrate performance by adhering to established policies and procedures and exhibiting the defined characteristics associated with attendance and punctuality.

6. Physical Effort: Attendance is an essential function of the job.
