Description

At NorthBay Health, the Occupational Therapist II, Hand Therapy functions as an independent clinician providing comprehensive occupational therapy services in the outpatient setting with advanced clinical reasoning. The Occupational Therapist II supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA), contributes to program development, and ensures high-quality patient care consistent with departmental and regulatory standards.

Primary Job Duties

  1. Provides outpatient occupational therapy services during assigned shifts including occasional weekend or holiday coverage as required.

  2. Performs initial evaluations, periodic reevaluations, and updates treatment plans and goals in collaboration with physicians as appropriate.

  3. Delivers evidence-based interventions tailored to the patients diagnosis, learning needs, and age.

  4. Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.

  5. Educates patients and caregivers on therapy procedures, home exercise programs, injury prevention, and safe use of assistive or adaptive equipment.

  6. Communicates effectively with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patients, families, and third party payers regarding patient status and treatment progression.

  7. Provides guidance and mentorship to Occupational Therapist I staff, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and students.

  8. Contributes to program development, quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, in services, and professional development activities.

  9. Performs other duties as assigned in support of patient care and clinic operations.



Qualifications
  1. Education: Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.

  2. Licensure and Certifications: Current California license in Occupational Therapy is required. NBCOT certification is required. Current AHA or equivalent Basic Life Support certification is required.

  3. Experience: Minimum of one year of professional experience required. Prior outpatient experience strongly preferred.

  4. Skills: Advanced competency in Occupational Therapy evaluation and intervention techniques across physical, cognitive, and psychosocial domains. Ability to manage a full outpatient caseload with clinical independence.

  5. Standards of Performance: Demonstrates reliability and professionalism by adhering to departmental policies, procedures, and established attendance and punctuality standards.

  6. Physical Effort: Attendance is an essential function of the job. Requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach frequently, and to perform moderate lifting, pushing, and pulling of patients and equipment typical of an outpatient therapy environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

  7. Hours of Work: Assigned shift during outpatient department operating hours. Participation in occasional weekend or holiday coverage may be required.
