Part-Time Custodian


Department: Public Works ˜  FLSA Status: Non-Exempt  ˜ Reports To: Buildings & Grounds Supervisor


 


ROLE SUMMARY


 


The Custodian will perform routine office cleaning of various buildings and offices of Plum Borough which shall include the Public Works Facility, Municipal Complex, and Library. This is a part-time position requiring 20 hours per week.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


 


Key Responsibilities:


Custodian is responsible for general cleaning of all buildings, including but not limited to:


 


·       Completes building and cleaning checklist on a daily basis


·        Empties all trash from offices, bathrooms, common areas and hauls to dumpster


·        Empties recycling bins into carts and takes to appropriate location


·        Wet mops/dust floors, runs vacuum on all carpeting


·        Thoroughly cleans and disinfects all locker rooms, restrooms and drinking fountains; makes sure all restrooms are stocked with supplies


·        Wipes desks, tables, window sills, and countertops


·        Cleans all common areas and meeting rooms


·        Responds to service requests promptly and thoroughly


·        Transports cleaning equipment and supplies between buildings


·        Maintains and properly cares for cleaning equipment


 


Custodian is responsible for monitoring and reporting issues/problems related to Borough facilities:


·        Promptly and properly reports when cleaning equipment is in need of repair


·        Promptly and properly reports when Borough property is in need of repair


·        Promptly and properly reports when cleaning supplies and equipment need requisitioned 


 


MENTAL DEMANDS


 


Ability to speak fluent and clear English.  Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the Borough.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out details by uninvolved or oral instruction. 


 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS



The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to

Constantly Incurred (More than 75% of time on job)


•                          Ability to stand, Ability to walk, Ability to use both hands, Ability to use both legs, Ability to climb stairs and ladders, Ability to stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.  Specific visual requirements, Use of depth perception.  Ability to operate truck/motor vehicle. 


Frequently Incurred (Between 25% and 75% of time of job)


•                          Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds and move up to 50 pounds.  Ability to carry/push/pull, Ability to kneel, Ability to reach at high or low levels for an extended period of time.  Ability to pull hand over hand, Ability to balance, Repetitive twisting or pressure involving wrists or hands, Ability to repeatedly bend. 


Occasionally Incurred (Less than 25% of time of job)


•                          Ability to move up to 75 pounds. Ability to work outside and inclement weather.


 


Working conditions typical of this position:


This position typically requires work in various offices and industrial/commercial buildings.


Personal protective equipment typical of this position:


This position occasionally requires the use of personal protective equipment such as rubber gloves, safety glasses, face filter breather mask, eye/hearing protection and other equipment as needed. 


 


QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE


 


·        High School education or GED required; this may be waived based on special circumstances.


 


LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, & CERTIFICATIONS


 


·        Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and maintain said license while employed by the Borough.
