Job Description - Part-Time Early Childhood Spanish Teacher


We are seeking a part-time Spanish teacher to work with children aged 3 to 6 years old, from Beginners to Grade 1. This is a 10-month position involving regular weekly teaching hours, approximately 16 hours per week. The role involves integrating Spanish language instruction into a play-based, sensory-rich, and developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum. The teacher will collaborate closely with early childhood educators and the upper school Spanish teacher to create a nurturing and immersive language environment. The ideal candidate will have a progressive understanding of early childhood pedagogy and possess a willingness to collaborate with colleagues and parents to ensure the social, emotional, and academic well-being of students.

Prerequisites for the position

  • Must be a native or fluent Spanish speaker 
  • A degree in Education, Spanish, Early Childhood Education, or a related field is preferred
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and a play-based learning philosophy.
  • Have a working knowledge of current educational practices and an understanding of a Spanish language curriculum that supports a developmentally appropriate, process-oriented approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate small group learning opportunities in Spanish to 3-6-year-olds using age-appropriate, play-based activities centered on immersing students in the Spanish language
  • Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans that promote language acquisition.
  • Observe and assess student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Set and monitor the tone of the classroom to ensure an environment that exhibits respect for classmates, teachers, and the school as a whole
  • Communicate about student development and curriculum with faculty and families
  • Write a curriculum summary and comments for student progress reporting twice a year
  • Assist with duties that may include: snack-recess, lunch-recess duty, and/or dismissals

  • Engage in ongoing professional development
  • Attend and participate in grade-level team, divisional, special subjects, and all-school meetings
  • Attend community events that may be outside of regular school hours: Back-to Open Night, Open House, Carnival, etc.
  • Maintain positive relationships with families, students, and colleagues
  • Promote student involvement and participation in all aspects of the program
