Part-Time Response Advocate - CenLA

Mission Statement: The mission of Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response® (STAR®) is to support survivors of sexual trauma, improve systems response, and create social change to end sexual violence.

Position Description: The Part-Time Response Advocate (PTRA) performs a variety of duties involved in providing support and advocacy for the rights and protection of survivors of sexual trauma. The primary duty of the PTRA is to accompany survivors of sexual assault to local hospitals in order to provide support and resources before, during, and after a forensic medical exam and/or law enforcement accompaniment. PTRAs are expected to be available on holidays, nights, and weekends.

Salary: $10/shift; $20/hour for direct service (including travel to/from hospitals, monthly team meetings, and documentation). Minimum of 8 shifts/month.

Reports to: Survivor Response Manager

Position Duties

The primary duties of this position are:

1. Survivor Accompaniment
   
   
   
   1. Respond to hospital and/or law enforcement call-outs during business and after
      hours, providing support and accompaniment to survivors in medical and/or
      legal settings.
   
   
   2. Provide comprehensive crisis intervention to primary survivors of sexual assault
   
   
   3. Ensure survivors' rights are upheld
   
   
   4. Educate survivors on the criminal justice process and interpreting specific jargon used by other sexual trauma response professionals.
   
   
   5. Connecting victims with additional services throughout the community, as needed
   
   
   6. Conduct safety plans with all survivors
   
   
   7. Assist survivors with accessing transportation and emergency shelter as needed
   
   
   
   


2. Documentation and File Management
   
   
   
   1. Ensure all accompaniments are accurately documented
   
   
   
   


3. Other Responsibilities
   
   
   
   1. Clock in and out using the organization's timekeeping system
   
   
   2. Actively participate in team meetings, monthly check-ins, and 1-1 meetings with the Survivor Response Manager
   
   
   3. Submit monthly mileage and reimbursement documentation
   
   
   4. Maintain continuing education requirements
   
   
   5. Submit mandated reports to DCFS and law enforcement, as required by Louisiana law.
   
   
   6. Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
   
   
   
   

Qualifications for this Position
The following are the minimum requirements for this position:

• You have a minimum of one-year minimum of experience providing direct crisis intervention and/or survivor advocacy with knowledge of the criminal justice field.


• You understand the demands of providing crisis services to survivors of sexual trauma through phone support and in-person support.


• You can travel throughout the branch service area.


• You are available to take after-hours calls and respond to requests for hospital and/or legal accompaniment

• You are committed to getting hospital clearance for the hospital(s) that STAR provides hospital accompaniment for your home office, including drug tests and vaccinations


• You have completed, or will complete in the first year of employment, a mandatory 40 hours of sexual violence training; plus 20 hours of continuing education/training annually.


• You have a valid driver's license and a working, insured vehicle required at the time of appointment.
