POSITION SUMMARY
The Personal Trainer is responsible for providing members with individualized fitness
programming, guidance, and motivation to help them reach their health and wellness
goals. Personal Trainers at the YMCA create a supportive and encouraging environment
that reflects the Y’s mission of strengthening community through youth development,
healthy living, and social responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Conduct one-on-one and small-group personal training sessions tailored to
members' fitness levels and goals.
• Perform fitness assessments and design safe, effective, and progressive exercise
programs.
• Assist in marketing and sales of personal training sessions/other wellness programs
• Provide instruction on proper technique, form, and use of equipment.
• Maintain regular contact with assigned clients and follow up on progress.
• Build positive relationships with members to encourage ongoing engagement in
YMCA health and wellness programs.
• Maintain accurate session records and communicate scheduling or billing needs
with supervisor as needed.
• Assist with fitness center coverage, including answering questions and promoting
programs.
• Stay current with industry trends and continuing education.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming workout environment.
• Support YMCA policies and promote core values of caring, honesty, respect, and
responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current national Personal Trainer certification (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM,
NSCA,ACTION).
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
• Prior experience working in a fitness environment and training clients is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and ability to motivate others.
• Must be dependable, punctual, and professional in appearance and behavior.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Ability to lead fitness activities, demonstrate exercises, and lift up to 45 pounds.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform physical demonstrations.
• Flexible schedule with availability for early morning, evening, and weekend clients
as needed.
