About the Position


The Processing Aide’s essential role is readying library materials for checkout. Tasks include applying barcodes, security tags, labels, and protective coverings to library materials; unboxing shipments of library materials; and repairing damaged items.


Primary Responsibilities



  • Processing tasks. Performs a variety of tasks which are repetitive in nature related to the processing of new library materials. Tracks and records numbers of items processed daily. Must meet minimum standards for completing processing of items. Uses equipment such as paper cutters, DVD polishing equipment, and label printers. Uses ILS software to print labels. May be asked to unbox shipments of library materials. Monitors supplies needed and informs the supervisor when supplies are running low.

  • Mending tasks. Completes simple repairs including using machinery to buff scratches from CDs and DVDs.

  • Working relationships. Fosters good working relationships with diverse people including staff, patrons, volunteers and vendors.
    Accepts assignments from supervisor, manager or other Library staff in a professional and timely manner.

  • Committees and workgroups. May participate in committees or workgroups on activities outlined in the strategic goals.

  • Other duties. Performs other duties as assigned or required.



Minimum Qualifications



  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

  • Completion of two years of high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates an aptitude or ability to perform the required tasks.

  • Precision skills in handling scissors, exacto knife, box cutter, and/or additional tools when processing materials.

  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.

  • General knowledge of operating a computer and programs.

  • Ability to work days, nights or weekends as scheduled.

  • If travel is required for library purposes must have transportation. If using personal vehicle must maintain state required insurance.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Spanish language and/or other non-English language skills.



Working Environment



  • Work is performed in a non-public area of the library. Work is completed individually with little social interaction.

  • Subject to repetitive movement of placing labels, covers, tape and stickers to new items. Work requires sitting for long periods of time. 

  • Work requires the regular use of scissors and paper cutters.

  • Must be able to lift/carry library materials, up to 50 lbs, and push/pull library carts.

  • Must have good hand mobility and coordination.



Schedule



  • Part-time, 18 hours per week. This position will be working days, 3 to 4 shifts per week.

  • Completion of criminal background check will be required if the candidate is over eighteen (18) years of age.

Compensation



  • Pay Range Grade 11 starting pay $17.25/hour. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
