Position Overview:

The Pulmonary & Respiratory Specialist Is responsible for providing comprehensive respiratory care to patients, including basic respiratory therapy and assistance with advanced specialty respiratory care. Involves working closely with pulmonologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care. Will be responsible for providing specialized respiratory care to patients undergoing specialized care. This role involves collaborating with physicians to assist in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

Job Description:

EDUCATION:

Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

Associate or bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

California Respiratory Care Practitioner License (RCP)

CRT – Certified Respiratory Therapist

OR

RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist

DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

Interventional Pulmonary Department:

  • IPA – Interventional Pulmonary Assistant Certificate or within 1 year

NICU Department:

  • NPS – Neonatal Pediatric Specialty or within 6 months of hire

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:          

5 years recent relevant experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Clinical Assessment: Ability to perform thorough respiratory assessments.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in operating medical equipment used in Interventional procedures, such as bronchoscopes and ventilators.
  • Procedural Skills: Competence in assisting with and performing various specialized respiratory care.
  • Patient Care: Strong skills in providing compassionate and effective patient care, including managing anxiety and discomfort during procedures.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex clinical situations and make informed decisions quickly.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork skills to work effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Pulmonary Pathophysiology: In-depth understanding of respiratory system diseases and conditions, including COPD, asthma, lung cancer, and pulmonary infections.
  • Therapeutic Techniques: Knowledge of various respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, nebulization, and airway management.
  • Regulatory Standards: Understanding of healthcare regulations, safety protocols, and infection control practices.
  • Patient Education: Knowledge of educational techniques to teach patients and families about respiratory health and treatment options.
  • Evidence-Based Practices: Awareness of current research and advancements in respiratory therapy and interventional pulmonology.

Pay Range is $68.05 to $85.06 / hour

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
