Job Summary:
This is a Part Time position - and the hours will vary. Must have flexibility days, nights and weekends.
Previous experience
Work involves planning, implementing, and evaluating multiple leisure programs in Athletics. Responsible for developing programs in assigned areas: athletics. Employees in this class exercise independent judgment following established policies and procedures. Work is performed under the general direction of an assigned manager.

ATHLETICS: Developing athletic programs and administering sports leagues for all ages
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Plans, implements, and evaluates multiple leisure programs in assigned division
- Responsible for the development of assigned programs, including purchase requisitions, preparation of basic professional, instructor, and rental contracts for supervisory review, publicity, the delegation of assignments to staff and volunteers, determination of program costs, revenue projections, and program evaluations
- May assist in the training of staff and volunteers; may supervise contractual workers
- Confers with community groups, individuals, and contractual instructors to determine the needs of the participants; deals with the public tactfully and diplomatically
- Assists in program and membership registrations, collects fees, and prepares necessary reports
- Administers first aid or seeks appropriate help; prepares injury reports
- Collects league rosters and liability waivers
- Ensures security of an area or facility; enforces rules, regulations, and safety precautions; maintains order and discipline; sets up equipment or facility for assigned programs
- May be a lead staff member and responsible for a facility in the absence of a supervisor
- Recommends facility maintenance and assists with work orders as needed
- Assists in creating marketing materials, prepares publicity fliers, brochures, and updates program information on the City website
- Coordinates facility rentals
ATHLETICS:
- Prepares league schedules; supervises scorekeepers, volunteers, and contractual instructors
- Recruits officials for league activities
- Sets up locations for tournaments, races, and special events
- Works in programs including all ages, from preschoolers to senior citizens

EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and two (2) years of college course work in recreation or a closely related field and two (2) years directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Aquatic staff need current American Red Cross Certifications as lifeguard and water safety instructor; prefer future certifications as Instructor Trainer in lifeguarding and water safety
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as word processing programs, spreadsheets, email, and other communication tools
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and equipment requirements of recreation programs
- Ability to plan, organize and supervise recreation programs or special events
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public
- Ability to do light to heavy manual work
ATHLETICS:
- Knowledge of practices, principles, equipment, and rules of athletic leagues and programs
- Ability to set up league schedules, make-up games, and hire sports officials
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment:
ATHLETICS: 40% inside a climate-controlled building and 60% outside.
Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require sitting up to five (5) hours per day, standing approximately one (1) hour per day, and walking approximately two (2) hours per day. The work requires frequent bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting, and carrying objects weighing 15 to 45 pounds.
ATHLETICS: Must have the ability to do field maintenance and lining fields for sports tournaments and special events. Must have the ability to set up course requirements for 5K or 10K races.
Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Ability to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone. Speaking: Ability to communicate orally with others in person, on the phone, and while making group presentations. Seeing: Ability to see and read computer monitor screens and detect color coding. Ability to sense weather and safety considerations for events.
Driving Requirements: The work requires frequent driving and possession of a valid Florida Class "E" Driver's License.
Technology: The work requires the ability to operate telephones, smartphones, tablets, laminators, photocopiers, printers, desktop and laptop computers, calculators, park radios, and all associated software.
