About the Opportunity:
The Data Science Institute (DSI) is a high-visibility campus hub that partners with multiple departments and other units at Brown to support interdisciplinary data science education and research throughout campus. The institute also houses two research centers, the Center for Computational Molecular Biology and the Center for Technological Responsibility, Reimagination and Redesign. The institute and its centers offer academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, host postdoctoral researchers, and support collaborative data science research across campus.
Responsibilities:
This DSI research assistant position will be responsible for conducting a literature review that will contribute to an in progress publication on interdisciplinary curriculum design. This position will also complete technical coding tasks to demonstrate how to conduct data quality checks along with providing written explanations of the technical tasks. Finally, this position will assist in communicating the importance of data quality checks to mitigate potential bias in the data science pipeline.
Responsibilities include:
Conduct a literature review for a paper on interdisciplinary curriculum design
Curate python notebooks to automate data quality checks
Communicate to non-specialists how data quality code functions
Communicate to non-specialists the impact poor data quality can have on data science/ AI models
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required
Job Competencies
Familiarity with the literature on curriculum, interdisciplinary pedagogy, and data science
Exceptional python coding skills with the ability to explain code for non-specialists
Ability to conduct data quality checks and be able to critically evaluate data quality to minimize bias in data science/ AI models.
