Job Description - Resource Center Learning Specialist (Part Time) - 2026-2027


The Resource Center Learning Specialist supports and advances the mission of FCS by supporting students with learning differences, enabling them to succeed in all areas, supports teachers to best meeting student needs in the classroom; reports to the Resource Center Coordinator.

  1. Works as a Resource Center instructor for Level 1 and Level 2 RTI students, using instructional programs that are appropriate to the students’ needs
  2. Provides both pull out and push in and small group interventions, with guidance and direction from the Resource Center Coordinator
  3. Collects and uses data formally and informally to assess student needs and monitor progress
  4. Develops a warm rapport with students and a positive, secure teaching environment
  5. Becomes familiar with grade level/course curriculum objectives to support overall school learning goals
  6. Writes quarterly academic goals
  7. Uses school software to track student progress (e.g. weekly or bi-weekly) and to record daily session notes, which cultivates communication and fosters a collaborative approach to student learning
  8. Develops and updates Educational Service Plans (ESP)
  9. Writes quarterly student summaries
  10. Willingly and creatively tailors instruction to meet the individual needs of each student
  11. Communicates with students’ teachers regarding resource provision, classroom learning and assignments, and accommodations/modifications
  12. Assists students in changing non-academic behaviors that interfere with school performance (e.g. organizational, motivational, attitudinal)
  13. Works cooperatively as a team member with parents, administration, and representatives of outside agencies in an appropriate manner to support student learning
  14. Develops professionally by exploring and being willing to implement new instructional techniques and curriculum
  15. Prepares and turns in daily lesson plans for the week to the Resource Center Coordinator to ensure that student needs are being met
  16. Prays regularly for each student
  17. Attends weekly faculty meetings, Prayer 'N' Share at least one time weekly, and evening activities of the school as directed; participates in professional development
  18. Attends various school meetings and functions when requested, such as parent teacher conferences and Back to School Night
  19. Arrives at school promptly and stays until such time as necessary responsibilities are completed
  20. Is prompt and faithful with supervision duty on a regularly scheduled basis
  21. Dresses professionally and modestly, following the Staff Dress Code
  22. Seeks an awareness of the total school vision and serves willingly in special areas which enhance the overall effectiveness of the ministry

Requirements

The Resource Center Learning Specialist should have the following qualifications:

1. Committed Christian with a close personal walk with the Lord and the Christian character qualities to serve as a role model for young people

2. Regular in attendance at an evangelical Protestant church

3. A commitment to a Biblical lifestyle, not promoting or engaging in premarital, extramarital, transgender, or homosexual behavior

4. If married, a solid commitment based on Mark 10:9 and positive marital relationship

5. Strong commitment to Christian education

6. Bachelor's or graduate degree, including special education courses

7. Committed to keeping ACSI or state certification current according to FCS guidelines

8. Past success teaching students with a wide variety of learning differences

9. General familiarity with the Response to Intervention (RTI) and Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework, which systematically utilizes data to measure, demonstrate, and improve student learning

10. Perceives learning differences and the challenges that come with it as an opportunity from God

11. Recognizes the Biblical (Proverbs 23:7 KLV) and empirical significance of social-emotional competence and its impact on the learning process

12. Enthusiastic, sensitive, loving rapport with students, openness with parents and staff

13. Well organized, diligent, creative, flexible

14. Collaborates well with others in a relational and positive manner

15. Communicates clearly and sensitively with students, staff, and parents

16. Teachable, servant spirit
