Vehicle Operator (Part Time)

Voluntary Action Center of Northern Illinois is seeking dependable and compassionate part-time Vehicle Operators to join our team in Yorkville, IL. This position is ideal for individuals looking to work 20–29 hours per week and who have the flexibility to work part-time shifts scheduled within our operating hours of Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
 

As a Vehicle Operator, you’ll provide safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation to our clients through a variety of services including paratransit, flex-route, and park & ride routes. Your role helps individuals access daily essentials like medical appointments, grocery stores, and community resources while promoting dignity and independence.
 

Key Responsibilities

· Safely operate agency vehicles under various road and weather conditions.

· Assist passengers boarding, riding, and exiting vehicles.

· Secure mobility devices and provide passenger assistance as needed.

· Communicate with dispatch regarding routes and passenger movement.

· Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.

· Maintain accurate logs (trips, mileage, fuel, fares, and hours).

· Deliver excellent customer service while representing VAC’s mission and values.

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Valid Illinois driver’s license and a clean driving record. 

· Ability to pass a DOT physical, background check, and drug screening.

· Experience in transportation, public service, or similar field.

· Public or community transportation experience and experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities preferred.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

This role involves driving for extended periods, assisting passengers, and occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Operators must meet DOT medical standards and be able to lift, push, or pull equipment and mobility devices as needed.
