Volunteer Description:
Unpaid volunteer contributing time to Intermountain Healthcare. Provide supplemental and redundant communications for hospitals during emergencies, disasters, or planned events when normal communication channels are degraded, unavailable, or require augmentation**BY INVITATION ONLY**
1. Operate amateur radio equipment in accordance with FCC Part 97 regulations to send and receive authorized communications for hospital emergency operations.
2. Establish and maintain contact with local, regional, and statewide emergency communications networks (e.g., ARES, RACES, local repeater systems).
3. Relay essential messages between hospital Incident Command, local Emergency Operations Centers, other healthcare facilities, and response partners as directed. Form revised: September 2025 SD revised: September 2025
4. Set up, test, and maintain portable and fixed amateur radio equipment at designated hospital locations.
5. Participate in regular drills, exercises, and training sessions to maintain operational readiness.
6. Accurately log all transmissions and message traffic per hospital and emergency communications protocols.
7. Must have current FCC-issued Amateur Radio License (Technical class or higher).
8. Demonstrated proficiency in voice and/or digital amateur radio communications.
9. Must have familiarity with emergency communications practices (ARES, RACES, or equivalent experience).
