Summary

Abbot Public Library is dedicated to fostering literacy, education, and creativity from birth through the teenage years. Reporting to the Teen Librarian, the Youth Services Library Assistant provides front-line customer service and administrative support in both the Children’s and Teen Rooms.

Key Responsibilities

●       Staff youth services desks and assist patrons of all ages in locating physical and digital materials.

●       Utilize the library’s automated circulation system to process patron transactions accurately (check-ins, check-outs, holds).

●       Assist librarians with the planning, preparation, and execution of programs and outreach opportunities for children and teens.

• Provide high-quality, welcoming service across both the Children’s and Teen Rooms as scheduled.

Required Background & Qualifications

• High School diploma (or equivalent) with two years of similar library experience; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.


• Previous experience working directly with children, teens, and families.


• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient and welcoming demeanor.


• Solid computer literacy (experience with library ILS software/Evergreen is a plus).


• Ability to bend, reach, sit, and stand for extended periods as required to maintain the department and assist patrons.
