Overview
  
The LGAQ communications team serves as the Association’s strategic voice, comprising a vibrant group of skilled professionals in marketing, social media, journalism and internal communications. Following the recent local government elections, the Association is updating our Member Communications’ strategy to enhance our support for members.
  
As the Digital Communications Officer, you will be responsible for leading the planning, creation and distribution of content across a range of platforms including LGAQ publications and assisting with the Associations websites, ensuring that LGAQ communications to members, stakeholders and the public are effective, targeted and credible.
  
This role works closely with the Manager, Member Communications and the Senior Social Media and Digital Communications Officer to deliver best-practice communications strategy and materials and contribute to member value.

This is a full time role based in Newstead, Queensland. The right candidate for this role will fit in with our collaborative culture and enjoy contributing to Queensland communities. 
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the creation and production of high quality and strategic LGAQ video, audio and digital communications content and features for distribution across a range of platforms according to industry best practice.
  • Lead the production of LGAQ publications, including Council Leader magazine and Electronic Direct Mail (EDMs) whilst maintaining a high-quality standard and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO, Senior Member Communications Advisor, Media Advisor and ELT on producing digital content for the CEO Weekly Wrap and Association websites, editing copy to ensure a high standard and inclusion of relevant multimedia.
  • Assist the Media Advisor in preparing media releases and video for feature in multimedia publications and responding to media enquiries related to Queensland local government.
  • Lead the creation of, facilitate, author and edit digital content and assist with film and media campaigns.
  • Identify, research and write material for internal and public relations activities to promote local government.
  • Deliver multimedia training and support to colleagues and coordinate the scheduling of content capture.
  • Deliver presentations and facilitate multimedia workshops at LGAQ events to build skills within the local government communications’ community.
  • Continually develop digital communications strategies to ensure LGAQ communications are innovative and of the highest standard.
  • Provide strategic advice on audience analysis, message framing, platform selection, and timing and ensure the delivery of LGAQ key messages regarding policy outcomes across a range of multimedia platforms.
  • Provide innovative solutions to improving member engagement particularly in relation to ensuring the organisation effectively communicates its activities and achievements.
  • Assist the Communications Team by analysing relevant data to identify trends and target audience to grow the Association 's social media presence and provide support and assistance to Queensland councils to enhance and improve their digital presence.
  • Assist with member portal & website content coordination.
  • Monitor, analyse and report on communications activities, identifying areas for improvement.Build and maintain meaningful relationships with LGAQ staff and the broader LGAQ membership.
  • Adhere to all workplace relevant legislation and LGAQ policies.
  • Contribute to the LGAQ culture through application of the CARE Behaviours and participation in workplace activities.
  • Undertake travel as required.
About You
  
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism or Marketing.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in communications, publications, digital media or public relations.
  • A collegiate approach to working with and listening to colleagues and a passion for working with people in a team-based approach.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of print, media and digital communication production, strategies, processes and techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in filming/photography, editing and writing skills , coupled with a sharp news intuition and talent for crafting engaging video, print, digital, and audio content.
  • Demonstrated ability to originate and pursue news and feature ideas.
  • High-level project management skills, including an ability to set, enforce and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to translate complex policy issues into easily understood messages that reach a wide audience.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communications including the ability to liaise effectively with executives and other external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make recommendations.
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Well developed problem analysis and solving skills.
  • A current driver’s licence and ability to travel.
It would also be great if you have:
  • A broad understanding of Queensland state and local politics and key issues impacting the local government sector.
  • Experience with producing info graphics.
  • Proficient at using the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of programs.
