About the role
The Charles Goode Leading Tutor in Commerce is supported by Charles Goode AC, an Ormond Alumni, Fulbright Scholar and eminent leader in the Australian commercial community with a distinguished career as a director and Chairman of major public companies.
The Leading Tutor will work with the Dean of Learning, to provide learning opportunities in a range of teaching modes including tutorials, seminars, consultations, and an intensive course. The Leading Tutor will form relationships with students and staff that foster an interest and encourage excellence in academic pursuits. The Leading Tutor will also work closely with the Leading Tutors in Science, Arts, and Biomedicine, and other members of the Learning Team to form a vibrant, multidisciplinary group of educators.
Key responsibilities:
- Design and deliver a structured sequence of up to 6 weekly tutorials or learning events that responds to student inquiries and addresses key skills, conventions, core understandings and broader context for each of the subjects in which they are tutoring.
- Run tutorials on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during semester, and support the tutorial program and other tutors between sessions.
- Provide up to 6 hours of individual consultations per week during semester.
- Develop a week-long intensive course on a topic negotiated with the Dean of Learning to extend curious students beyond their university studies.
- Attend meetings relevant to the Academic Program as directed by the Dean of Learning.
- Engage in teaching and program design that is consistent with the Ormond pedagogical model.
- Interview prospective commerce tutors at the direction of the Academic Program Manager.
- Play a leading role in the professional development program provided for Ormond casual tutors.
- Interview prospective students.
- Engage in planning for upcoming semesters, as well as undertake various projects that may arise at the direction of the Dean of Learning.
- Refer students to appropriate sources of support as needed e.g., Ormond’s Academic Advisors, Counsellors, Psychologists.
- In collaboration with students, organising specific academic and professional learning events or activities for students, such as speakers, workshops and intensive teaching programs.
About You
- Several years of tertiary teaching experience, with high quality teaching practice.
- A completed undergraduate degree with a major in economics, finance, accounting or related discipline.
- Ability to teach multiple University of Melbourne subjects in economics, finance or accounting, and across multiple year levels.
- Commitment to support students to become independent learners and empowering them to pursue self-directed goals.
- Strong collaborative skills and interpersonal communication.
- Proven capacity to work in a multidisciplinary team environment and as a team leader.
