For more information on New College, see Your opportunity: Under the general direction of the Assistant to the Dean, Administration, the incumbent provides a wide range of administrative and communications support for the Office of Residence and Student Life (ORSL). This includes managing the office reception desk, supporting inquiries to the office, booking meetings for staff, and providing support and referrals to students. As a member of the New College's ORSL, the Program and Communications Assistant will be committed to an equity that recognizes, supports, and responds to the diverse histories, lived and marginalized experiences of students and many communities. Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Liaising with contacts to ensure consistent administration procedures arefollowed
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms and/or printed materials
  • Editing content for brochures, newsletters, websites and/or handbooks
  • Collating and organizing data for various reports
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

 

  • Two (2) years college diploma in business administration or communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of recent and related experience in student life providing administrative and communications support, preferably in a college or university setting.
  • Experience providing front-line service to a diverse undergraduate student population.
  • Experience editing and proofreading newsletters, communications materials, and social media campaigns.
  • Experience maintaining websites.
  • Experience maintaining databases.
  • Experience providing event logistics support, including room bookings, travel and accommodation, and catering arrangements.
  • Experience coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, note-taking, action and follow-up items.
  • Experience demonstrating commitment to diversity in a post-secondary environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills in: MS Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), E-mail (e.g. Outlook), electronic calendar organizer (e.g. Outlook), social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.), Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Creative Suite, Drupal/WordPress or similar content management systems.
  • Demonstrated strong student service orientation and experience fostering equity, diversity and inclusion in a post-secondary environment.

USW Pay Band 07 -- $58,012 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $74,189. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
