Job Description - ETL Data Engineer Associate, Scotiabank

The Global Compliance Data Technology team is accountable for developing and supporting a number of compliance and risk management data and reporting solutions within the Bank. The incumbent will be joining a team of solution developers and architects that work with on prem and cloud data platforms utilized in compliance and risk management.

The team is seeking an ETL Engineer Associate to integrate and support systems and ingest data from source systems to data warehouse and to develop dashboards and reports.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Implementing data ingestion pipelines / DevOps (on prem and Azure cloud) to move data from source systems to our central data warehouse
  • Developing SQL queries / ETL packages using T-SQL and SSIS to ingest data from source systems to integrate with data warehouse
  • Design and development of high quality dashboards / reports using tools like Power BI, SSRS, Excel/PowerPivot and Tableau.
  • Develop custom reports, analytics and KPI's for the Business and Collecting business requirements / user stories from clients
  • Integrate SharePoint solutions with data gathering and through automation through Power Apps / Power Automate
  • Complete testing to ensure high quality product for clients
  • Developing SQL views to enable data consumers to read data from data warehouse
  • Integrate systems via REST API, database views, SharePoint lists, sFTP, etc
  • Responsible for documenting databases, data process flows and maintain data dictionaries
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database and applications defects in a timely manner. Consult with internal and external groups as required
  • Coordinating code deployments / production implementations.
  • Train and assist users at all levels


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance / Azure Synapse or Azure Data Factory
  • Experience with Microsoft BI stack SQL Server, T-SQL, SSRS, MS SQL Enterprise Manager etc
  • Experience with data warehouse, ETL, SSIS to move data / integrate systems
  • Experience in developing BI reports and completing ad hoc queries and data analysis required
  • Expertise with data visualization / BI tools eg. Power BI, SSRS required.
  • Clear communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Experience with Azure Data / Synapse / EDL / Hadoop / Hive / Jupyter Notebooks / Tableau a plus
  • Attention to detail and feedback from clients on dashboards and reports must be completed rapidly
  • Experience with SDLC methodologies required eg. Agile / Waterfall
  • Experience with databases, data modeling design
  • Knowledge on Banking / Risk related systems is a plus
  • Experience developing code to consuming REST API services a plus
  • Experience integrating systems with COTS Commercial Off The Shelf software packages a plus
  • Experience with implementing DevOps / MS Azure Cloud services, Google Cloud Platform etc. a plus
  • Experience with web development (in ASP.NET / SharePoint / Power Apps / Power Platform ) a plus
