Job Description - Manager, Business Services

What can I expect to do in this role?

The Manager, Business Services, plays a pivotal role in supporting the Vice President in the strategic and business planning process as well as the general day-to-day management of the division. They work closely with the directors within the division to ensure the infrastructure that supports LAO's non-legal operations, (i.e. human resources, information technology, facilities, finance, and lawyer services and payments) is operating at optimal levels. In this role, you will champion excellence in service delivery to foster innovation, efficiency and identify risks. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record for results orientation, collaboration and advanced decision support skills. Reporting to: Vice President, Corporate Services and CAO

How do I qualify?

Key accountabilities:

• In partnership with the Corporate Services leadership team, lead the development and management of business and strategic plans for the department
• Build and maintain linkages and alignment between the divisions plans and those across other parts of LAO
• Develop and review decision support material including briefing notes and other decision products on behalf of the Vice President
• Lead special projects, including the management of project plans, timelines, deliverables, budget and change management components
• Oversee reporting and the risk management process for the division
• Support the Vice President in developing and coordinating activities to assist in productive relationships with stakeholders
• Coordinate financial oversight activities for the division in collaboration with Finance Department, including review of budgets and oversight of procurement activities
• Gather data from existing internal/external data sources, synthesize and analyze to aid in understanding of material and make recommendations to address challenges as required
• Collect and analyze data in order to conduct a risk assessment and provide strategies to manage risk
• Co-ordinate and work in collaboration with human resources in support of labour relations matters within the division
• Co-ordinate and work in collaboration with the business managers across LAO
• Support effective operations management processes and procedures
• Oversee the development of work plans and timelines, and develop reporting and tracking systems
• Promote and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, accessibility, equity and inclusion
• Provide advice, guidance and direction to departmental staff

Required skills & experience:

• Post secondary degree in Business Management, Business Administration or a similar discipline, and/or a minimum of 8 years combined experience and education
• Minimum 4 years business and project management experience
• Significant experience with executive decision support including options development and analysis, and drafting and reviewing of decision support documents such as briefing notes, business cases and decision slide decks.
• Experience with reporting and evaluation methodologies and project management
• Minimum 2 years Financial management skills and knowledge
• Analytical and strategic thinking skills
• Experience with the management and reduction of risk
• Strong sense of client focused service
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
• Ability to prioritize competing issues effectively
• Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
• Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills
• Extensive working knowledge of MS Office suite, Visio, Project Management software, and PeopleSoft
• Professional, positive, and supportive team player
• Attention to detail, excellent organizational abilities,
• Strong consultation, facilitation, and negotiation skills
