Job Description - Packing Shift Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for the utilization and balancing of all resources on shift to ensure efficient shift productivity while maintaining full adherence to safety and quality. Must effectively communicate with the Shipper and Receiver and all other departments. Responsible for the development and growth of shift employees involving areas of behaviour, communication, productivity, and career progression.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Post-Secondary diploma and/or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in shipping/receiving.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years production experience in an industrial environment.
  • Forklift certificate is an asset.

Technical Skills/Competence

  • Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations and people.
  • Able to identify key issues; creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles.
  • A clear and solid understanding of policies, procedures, and Core Values.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • High level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and an ability to think outside-the-box.

  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Must have good team building and motivational skills.
  • Good command of English, written and oral.
  • Microsoft Office proficient, especially Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Packing Shift Supervisor are detailed below, but not limited to the following:

  • Review and analyze daily requirements and ensure plans are communicated and executed.
  • Work closely and continuously while in constant communication with Shipping and other departments to resolve any issues and discrepancies.
  • Participate in accident/incident investigation processes & complete corrective actions.
  • Responsible for the development and growth of shift employees involving areas of behaviour, communication, productivity, and career progression.
  • Participate and lead regular performance evaluations and coaching opportunities as they arise.
  • Review and adjust manpower requirements to meet production schedules.
  • Identify any gaps to ensure coverage to meet departmental operational needs.
  • Conduct daily verifications of the attendance system and manage employee timesheet approvals in Dayforce.
  • Address employee concerns and contact the Manager and Human Resources for guidance and support.
  • Hold Packing Leads/Supervisors accountable on daily performance, and ensure accurate and entries in EPICS.
  • Responsible for setting up the next shift for success by ensuring smooth continuation of production through cleanliness, schedule adherence, material preparation, and communication of any non-conformances.
  • Responsible for ensuring manpower for the next shift is balanced and fully staffed by managing call-ins; request support from other departments and/or call temporary work force as required.
  • Monitor workflow during walk around events to ensure good housekeeping practices are observed.
  • Support compliance with all Quality management policies and procedures, and when required, contact the Quality team for support.
  • Participate in NCR root cause investigations when required.
  • Support change for the better at Almag by co-operating with others and growing the business.
  • Ensure material is organized and packed according to the planned pack/shipping list.
  • Oversee staging of material in the link according to ship to address.
  • Ensure Packing Leads/Supervisors and packers have a list of jobs to be packed according to due date and priority sequence.
  • Oversee Packing Leads/Supervisors are following specific packing instructions as directed by sales or customer.
  • Ensure Proficiency with Epics and Company’s routing process is followed by all team members and adherence to quality requirements. QA receives samples for outside testing and receives work orders for new and replacement dies tested.
  • Monitor the process of pulling and stocking material in EPICS for completion and accuracy.
  • Promote continuous cross-training and process improvement with-in team.
  • Ensure compliance to all quality & safety related policies, procedures and system requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  HEALTH & SAFETY

  • Observes all legislative requirements including but not limited to Section 27 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act;
  • Ensures workers work in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the Act and the regulations;
  • Ensures workers use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that Almag requires to be used or worn;
  • Advises workers of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health or safety of the worker of which you are aware of;
  • Where so prescribed, provides workers with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for protection of workers;
  • Takes every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of workers;
  • Observes and enforces Almag’s Health & Safety policies and procedures;
  • Corrects unsafe acts and conditions in a timely manner;
  • Trains new employees and retrains employees as required;
  • Participates in accident/incident investigation process;
  • Conduct safety talks with employees;
  • Ensures proper orientation is conducted for permanent and temporary staff;
  • Assist in creating modified jobs when required;
  • Ensures the department is kept clean, orderly and safe at all times
