Location: Based in Natoaganeg, however consideration will be given to work at any of our member communities

Participating First Nations:
The North Shore Mi'kmaq Tribal Council (NSMTC) is comprised of and provides services to seven member Mi'kmaq First Nation communities: Ugpi'ganjig (Eel River Bar), Oinpegitjoig (Pabineau), Natoaganeg (Eel Ground), Metepenagiag (Red Bank), L'nui Menikuk (Indian Island), Tjipogtotjg (Buctouche), and Amlamgog (Fort Folly).

Scope of Position:
As part of the Supported Child Development (SCD) Program and reporting to the Supported Child Development Manager, the SCD Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with communities and provincial agencies to address services and intervention gaps in the provincial Early Intervention program, and to enhance services already provided by the federal FASD and Maternal Child Health Programs.

Key Responsibilities: Please note that the following duties are not exhaustive and are subject to change based on the needs of the organization and/or supervisor:

• Keeping up to date on all available early intervention programs, and adapting them to fit the needs of children on reserve

• Meeting with members communities to identify gaps in services for young children and their families through a needs assessment

• Ensuring ongoing improved access for families and communities in the navigation of early intervention services

• Maintaining ongoing communication with families and community

• Ensuring that non-First Nation Initiatives are adapted to be culturally appropriate

• Supporting capacity building within communities through increased knowledge and access to early preventative services

• Preparing reports as required

• Working directly with families in the seven First Nation communities

• Acting as a strong advocate for First Nation children and families

• Providing parenting support programs within the seven First Nation communities

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

• Post-secondary education in a relevant field (degree in Education, Nursing or Social Work) or a Certificate in Early Childhood Education (ECE) with a minimum of 5 years of related work experience; other combinations of education and/or experience may be considered.

• Professional certification in good standing (required)

Technical Skills

• Understanding of the Mi'kmaq culture and communities within the North Shore Mi'kmaq Tribal Council

• Proficiency with MS Office Suite

• A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation is required, as occasional travel within and outside New Brunswick may be necessary.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and independently while creating valuable relationships internally, in community and with external partners.

• Excellent collaboration, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

• Demonstrated ability to think critically and identify innovative strategies that support communities and families

• Demonstrated leadership abilities and skills in advocacy on behalf of clients and families.

Assets

• Experience working in or with First Nations communities.

• Ability to speak Mi'kmaq
