About BlackRock’s Global Product Group (GPG)

At BlackRock the responsibility for product strategy, development (ex ETF) and range management activities for pooled funds has been brought under the Global Product Group (GPG) team.

The GPG team is responsible for the product strategy, design, development and ongoing relevance of BlackRock’s large and diverse range of funds. Our global product range is one of the most dynamic and diverse in the industry and we work and advise on design considerations for all investment strategies (active, index, multi-asset, illiquids), vehicle types and regulatory regimes.

The team carries out a wide range of functions, including: market, competitor and fund range analysis; the business analysis and design of specific ideas; the project management of fund launches/changes (launch leadership), including detailed product structuring and negotiation through internal approval processes.

The Hong Kong team forms part of the APAC GPG team, that manages the region’s Product Development Committee which approves all new products prior to launch as well as product changes. We believe optimal product design delivers better outcomes for our clients, creates significant operating and often cost efficiencies and is at the foundation of a scalable business model.

Role Description

The role will be responsible for supporting the broad activities of GPG in Asia Pacific (APAC), with a focus on Hong Kong & the broader Asia region. The position offers an opportunity to interact with many different divisions within the Firm and has significant exposure to senior executives and product development decision-making at local, regional and global levels.

A key deliverable is the oversight and execution of product development initiatives, including fund launches and closures, repositioning of existing products, innovating new product ideas in partnership with investment and distribution colleagues / clients. The candidate must be comfortable interacting with senior investors, product strategists, client relationship managers, and with colleagues from Operations, Legal, Risk and Marketing teams.

Strong project management skills and prior exposure to a broad range of investment products across different asset classes is necessary to succeed in this role.

Responsibilities:

• Acquire and maintain a deep knowledge of BlackRock’s global product set
• Partner with stakeholders in BLK’s client facing teams, portfolio management, research & strategy and operating teams to implement the firm’s product development agenda
• Lead projects to deliver fund launches, repositioning’s and other changes – across a range of client businesses and asset classes
• Support the maintenance of existing products, working with numerous stakeholders to reposition products for the purpose of enhancing commercial performance, or eliminate products, as appropriate
• Contributing to the implementation approach- including prioritizing the product pipeline according to commercial and strategic considerations and planning range level implementation to maximize resource efficiency
• Seek to enhance existing processes with new ideas/automation and develop best practices globally

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant experience in financial services, preferably in asset/fund management, with an emphasis on investment products
• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Strong interest in product design and structuring. Experience in Alternative products will be an advantage.
• Understanding of the operational infrastructure supporting mutual funds
• Good understanding of the Hong Kong or other regional regulatory frameworks
• Experience in facing retail and institutional clients
• Strong project management, organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment, and own delivery against tight deadlines and constraints
• Sound and unbiased judgment, professionalism and discretion
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to coordinate across multiple functions, geographies and stakeholders across the firm
• Effective in operating in an open, interactive, collegial environment
• Ability to solve problems creatively, combined with a passion for driving commercial outcomes
