Ansible, Systemadministration, Softwareinstallation, MacOS, Linux, Desktops, IT, Webservices, Softwareentwicklung, Python, IT-Infrastruktur, Microsoft Windows The Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching near Munich is a world leader in the field of ground-based and space-based experimental astronomy. The IT group manages and maintains the institute's IT infrastructure and central IT services. It also develops scientific software and applications for ongoing scientific projects as well as specific control software for detectors and satellites under construction. The main research areas of the High Energy Group (HEG) are compact remnants of stars such as white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes, the evolution of supermassive black holes at the center of galaxies and the formation of the largest structures in the universe. To support the HE group working on current and future X-ray telescopes (eROSITA / SRG and Athena), the IT group is looking for a highly motivated person to start as soon as possible. IT system administrator Reference number 09/2024 Your tasks will be Management of the IT infrastructure and the Linux server landscape of HEG Support for desktops, laptops and software On- and offboarding of HEG employees Software installations for science Backup and recovery Contributing their strengths and knowledge to cross-group tasks Support for institute-wide web services What you bring with you Completed technical university degree (Master's / Bachelor's / Diploma) or completed vocational training with adequate professional experience; career starters also get a chance Scripting or programming skills (e.g. Python or comparable) or experience with infrastructure-as-code frameworks (e.g. Ansible) Sound knowledge of system administration under Linux and Windows.
