Graphic designers use their creative skills to develop visual communications to effectively and artistically convey ideas and messages. They create visual concepts to help people comprehend the world around them through colour, texture, pictures, and symbols. From the layout of a website to enormous graphics visible on billboards, graphic designers create these visual concepts to inspire customers. They can transform statistical data into visual graphics and diagrams, thus making complex ideas more accessible. Graphic designers work in a variety of sectors. They may be in charge of all parts of a company's design process or specialize in a specific field such as advertising, digital design, illustration, or branding. This position is not the same as that of a Web Designer and requires a solid foundation in design theory. In addition to this, proficiency in design software is also required for this position.
The expected duties to be performed by a Graphic Designer include:
• Taking design briefs for understanding the requirements
• Thinking creatively and creating new concepts, layouts and graphics for product representation, company’s logo and website
• Briefing and advising clients
• Conceptualizing visuals based on requirements
• Scheduling project implementation and defining budget constraints
• Preparing rough drafts for approval
• Working with copywriters and creative director for finalizing the designs
• Amending designs after feedback and preparing final layout
• Working with graphic design software
• Managing multiple projects
• Liaising with suppliers and service providers
The desirable qualification required for the position of a Graphic Designer is:
• Degree in design, graphic arts, or other related fields
• Proven experience in graphic design
• Knowledge of industry-leading software and technologies such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver
• Outstanding presentation skills to articulate ideas and designs
• Excellent communication skills to interpret and negotiate briefs
• Professional approach to time, deadlines, and cost
• A keen eye for details and aesthetics
