Head of Technical Pricing - (Open to Internal Applicants only)

This role is responsible for leading the Technical Pricing team in the Actuarial Function in RSA Ireland, reporting directly to the Chief Actuary. As a key member of the actuarial leadership team, you will lead the development and delivery of personal lines technical pricing and risk modelling practices and strategy.

You will support the Chief Actuary with driving the achievement of performance targets.  You will ensure that there is the necessary capacity and capability within the team and that they are developed and managed to achieve business targets. You will be an experienced people leader with broad knowledge of General Insurance, risk modelling and data science.

Key Responsibilities:

Leading, motivating and developing the RSA Ireland Technical Pricing team to ensure the provision of comprehensive, high quality actuarial services to the business.

Recruiting, managing, coaching, developing and motivating the team to ensure delivery of the required standards of performance now and in the future.

Planning and managing team business operations and resources in line with agreed performance targets, service standards, budgets and wider business and change objectives.

Lead and assist in the production, interpretation, communication, and implementation of pricing recommendations from GLMs, Claims Trending Analyses and other risk modelling exercises.

Build, maintain, improve, and own all Personal Lines Technical Pricing models.

Deliver technical excellence and constantly improve all aspects associated with pricing sophistication; and business insights delivered by Technical Pricing team.

Build and maintain effective working relationships between Technical Pricing, Underwriting / Retail Pricing, Reserving, Capital Modelling Teams, and corresponding teams across the Group.

Be a key contributor to cross functional engagement as part of the Virtuous Circle and Operational Planning.

Manage and monitor the Change Control Process for pricing tools. Be EUCA owner for pricing tools and ensure compliance within the team.

Keeping abreast of developments in the external market, Pricing models, tools and methodologies including data science techniques and challenger models.

Agreeing and organising the production and reporting of business information and key insights required to support and inform other business areas and activities e.g., on claims trends.

Supporting and encouraging the identification and implementation of appropriate new and/or better ways of doing things to improve service and/or efficiency, with a real focus on innovation.

Maintaining an effective and proportionate business control environment in line with internal policy and material external legislative and/or regulatory requirements.

Providing ad hoc pricing insights to the RSA Ireland Executive Team and RSA Ireland Board either directly or through appropriate reporting channels.

Selecting, monitoring, and overseeing the use of external actuarial advisers including RSA India to support the Technical Pricing team in providing high quality, value for money actuarial services to the business.

Leading and/or contributing pricing expertise to ad hoc reviews or projects as necessary.

Requirements:

Relevant Actuarial Qualification or significant relevant experience gained through employment.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a pricing role in a General Insurance Company; ideally including team management responsibilities.

Detailed knowledge of the Irish regulatory environment and requirements.

Flexibility to price non-standard risks and portfolios and develop ad-hoc solutions to new pricing challenges.
