Job Description - Lecturer / Assistant Professor in Nutrition

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Nutrition within the Food Science and Nutrition
Section in the UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science. The appointee will join a team within the Section delivering
lectures on topics such as Human Nutrition, Nutrition Research, and Clinical Nutrition on the BSc Human Nutrition,
MSc Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics, and online MSc Food, Nutrition and Health programmes.
The candidate will also actively contribute to on-going research and perform duties associated with the operation
and general academic responsibilities of the Section and School.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties shall be as laid down by the Head of School or his/her nominee and shall include lecturing, tutoring, research
supervision and administration. As the School activities continue to develop in line with the needs of the University
and the sector, with evolving courses and research programmes, and with the implementation of new technologies,
it is essential that the appointee be flexible in attitude and approach.

The main duties/responsibilities shall include:
Teaching and Learning
• Teach on BSc Human Nutrition, MSc Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics and MSc Food, Nutrition & Health
programmes, particularly in the areas of Human Nutrition, Nutrition Research, Nutritional Assessment and
Clinical Nutrition, while incorporating the most up-to-date knowledge and the results of current research.
• Contribute to wider teaching and assessment activities, as assigned by the Dean and Head of School.
• Contribute to academic duties in the Section and School.
Research, Innovation and Impact
• Conduct and support academic research in the field of Nutrition.
• Engage in research dissemination and outreach activities.
• Engage in scholarly activities leading to research publications.
• Contribute to the advancement of a research culture at the School and support innovation activities in the
School, College and wider University.
• Supervise Masters and Doctoral students.

Leadership and contribution
• Serve on School, College and/or University committees as nominated by the Dean and Head of School.
• Collaborate with other universities, nationally and internationally.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support the implementation of the school strategic
plan.
Communication
• Promote the School, College and University at public events and online fora.
• Engage in student recruitment events and support the preparation of marketing and promotional materials.
• Foster and maintain good alumni relations.
• Maintain an up-to-date online UCD staff profile.
Other duties
• Undertake other duties as may be assigned by the Dean and Head of School from time to time.
