The range of investment solutions include managed accounts, financial planning frameworks and custom solutions. SAI serves as the investment manager to all Fidelity managed accounts offered by Fidelity’s Portfolio Advisory Services and through Fidelity’s Wealth Management Advisory Services. We construct and manage asset allocation portfolios for more than 3 million clients.

The Team

The Systematic Portfolio Engineering team is responsible for portfolio construction and trading of Fidelity’s retail and workplace managed accounts. We employ investment expertise, quantitative techniques, and technology to scale our investment processes across both taxable and tax qualified portfolios with a mix of single and multi-asset class strategies, investing in a range of securities, including stocks, bonds, ETFs, mutual funds, and separately managed accounts.

The Role

We are seeking a Team Leader for the Systematic Portfolio Engineering team. This role will be located in our Dublin, Ireland office. You will be part of a dynamic group, tasked with developing innovative ways to manage client portfolios at scale. You will work collaboratively within the Systematic Portfolio Engineering team, including managing team members in the Dublin, Ireland office. In addition to people management, you will act a leader in directing efforts related to analyzing large data sets of portfolio holdings, identifying trading opportunities, configuring our optimization platform inputs for desired trades, and evaluating portfolio quality.

You will be responsible for ensuring client investment portfolios are of the highest quality. You will be expected to act as a “player – coach” and be involved in monitoring portfolio characteristics, understanding factor and risk model exposures, performing cross-sectional and time-series analysis to improve investment outcomes, and build processes to facilitate ongoing oversight across millions of data points.

You will represent the team cross SAI initiatives, representing investment prototypes, requirements, and business context. This leadership role will be critical in ensuring effective partnership exists across our portfolio engineering teams as well as the broader SAI organization. This individual will provide valuable coaching to the Systematic PE team, drive direction and prioritization for the group’s strategic initiatives and will be accountable for the team’s performance against stated goals and objectives.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Manage the Dublin, Ireland Systematic PE team (5-10 people), overseeing the team’s process and performance. Challenge and coach the team to run the day to day business and investment process, as well as working towards our future vision.
  • Facilitate strong communication and collaboration across Systematic PE sites.
  • Communicate effectively across the investment organization and with senior management to shape and direct effectively the team’s research agenda.
  • Demonstrate investment leadership by contributing to daily account management responsibilities as well investment R&D.
  • Project lead and manage initiatives, working with systems and the business, to drive initiatives to completion. Ensure timely delivery of initiatives.
  • Prioritize and allocate resources to meet the needs of the team.
  • Evaluate the performance of direct reports, providing them with feedback and routine performance evaluations.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with other investments teams and related partners across SAI.
  • Developing and leading a culture of independent thought, innovation, accountability and collaboration.
  • Partner on developing and executing on a multi-year strategy to build the team and investment process in Dublin as part of a multi-site strategy.
  • Fostering a supportive and inclusive team environment.

The Expertise We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Established track record managing or influencing experienced investment professionals.
  • Strong background in quantitative investing.
  • Very strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills and an eagerness to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Comfort with applied mathematics, statistics and computer science.
  • Demonstrated expertise in technical and financial problem solving.
  • Experience working in large, heavily matrixed organizations.
  • Proven strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Success working in a team-oriented investment environment.

The Skills You Bring

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a closely related field is encouraged.
  • CFA preferred.
