An Academic Counselor plays a crucial role in providing guidance and support to students helping them navigate their academic journey and achieve their educational goals. Key responsibilities
- Provide academic counseling to students regarding course selection academic planning and career pathways
- Assist students in setting academic and career goals and develop individualized academic plans
- Offer guidance and support to students facing academic challenges or seeking academic accommodations
- Conduct workshops and information sessions on study skills time management and other relevant topics
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and address students academic needs
- Assess students academic progress strengths and areas for improvement
- Coordinate with external resources and support services to enhance students academic experience
- Provide referrals to specialized support services such as tutoring counseling or disability services
- Keep accurate records of student interactions and maintain confidentiality
- Participate in professional development activities to stay updated on academic counseling best practices
Required qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Counseling Education Psychology or related field
- Proven experience in academic advising or counseling role
- Strong understanding of academic programs requirements and educational pathways
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Empathetic and patient approach to understanding and addressing students needs
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Knowledge of counseling techniques and assessment tools
- Familiarity with educational resources and support services
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- Proficiency in educational software and student information systems
- Adherence to ethical guidelines and confidentiality regulations
- Certifications in counseling or related fields are a plus
