Sous Chef / Chefs / Cooks - Summer | WhakapapaThe Whakapapa whanau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding rohe (region), some even third or fourth generation. We are currently looking for qualified chefs as well as cooks to join our Whakapapa summer team. Our summer operations consist of cafe service in the Knoll Ridge Cafe at the top of the Sky Waka gondola. With a variety of dining options, we have a need for cooks and chefs at all levels of experience. There is also an opportunity for these roles to move into winter employment following the summer season. Mo te tunga | About the role Assisting the Head Chef in the day-to-day kitchen duties, preparation and coordination of particular sections of kitchen production is what the bulk of the job entails.Other daily tasks include:Ensuring standards are maintained with respect to cooking quality, food presentation and delivery.Understanding all outlets menus and recipes, and be able to follow instructions carefully.Preparing and cooking appropriate amounts of stock to meet demand and minimize waste.Ensuring the necessary stock are on hand at the right quality and quantity.Ensuring food service is in accordance with the guests order in a manner and time frame that optimizes service quality.Along with your commitment to exceptional guest service, the skills and experience a successful candidate will have are:Level 3 or 4 New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality (Professional Cookery) or similar international qualification.A Minimum of 1-2 years in a professional Kitchen for the Junior Chef positions.A Minimum of 2-3 years in a professional Kitchen for the Senior Chef positions.Summer roles are likely to start from early December and go through to April 2024. On 18 December, DOC announced public notification of Pure Turoa Limited's concession application to operate Turoa ski area.
