Job Description - Youth And Case Worker - Hiring Now - Part-Time

Job Title: Youth & Case Worker - South Auckland (Part- Time)

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: -

Key Task

  1. Youth related case work 
  • Youth Crisis calls and referrals are responded to immediately.
  • Clients are picked up and transported as per Shakti’s policy
  • Clients are settled at the safe house (or alternative accommodation if applicable)
  • Accurate intake assessment for youth clients in an efficient and timely manner adhering to Shakti’s policies at all times.
  • Returning Risk Assessment conducted with Accuracy
  • Ensure clients’ needs are identified and agreed ‘Plan of Action’ is executed and followed-up.
  • Appropriate documentation is filed in the client file.
  • Client confidentiality is maintained at all times.

2. Individual Youth client evaluation.

  • Collection of information is done in a culturally appropriate manner.
  • Efficient individual client intake and assessment is done place at all times, including following youth service manual guidelines.
  • Clients’ needs are met in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the progress of clients is done consistently.

3. Client related Documentation Management and reporting.

  • Statistics are collated and recorded following the correct procedure using Excess database.
  • Cases are ‘closed’ and reasons specified on Excess when client no longer uses Shakti’s services
  • Client paper files are completed and stored in the appropriate manner.
  • Weekly team meetings are attended to discuss day-to-day operations of the center.
  • Prepare and submit fortnightly client reports.
  • Contribute to the monthly reports and case studies.
  • Incident reporting
  • Be available to be rostered during Christmas holiday and see all year end closing procedures are completed.

4. Organize youth/human rights awareness raising community events on key calendar dates including International Women’s Day and International day of the Girl- Child.

  • Assist in raising awareness and promotion of Shakti Auckland.
  • Participate in allied network meetings and contribute to policy submissions on Issues affecting youth, girls and young women with the support of youth steering group.

5. To provide support to youth clients (aged 12-24 years)

  • Efficient individual client intake and assessment following youth service manual guidelines.
  • Clients’ needs are identified and agreed ‘plan of Action’ is executed and followed-up
  • Appropriate documentation is filed in the client file.
  • Client confidentiality is maintained at all times.

6.Appropriately responding to crisis calls while working and rostered on for evening duty (needs basis)

  • Calls are screened according to the policy
  • Pick-up procedures ae followed correctly.
  • Attend to drop-in clients and assess them.
  • Documentation of a call's sis recorded correctly in the phone log.

7. Involved in annual planning & assist in Future Development and Quality Assurance

  • Taking initiative in developing Annual Plan during the second week of January of each year and regularly monitoring implementation of the Annual Plan.
  • To assist and participate in international development initiatives concerning youth/development of Shakti Auckland.
  • Maintaining the organization's QA standard with staff and volunteers.

8. Primary Advocacy.

  • Liaising and advocating for clients with various government departments, including Work and Income, Housing New Zealand, police and courts and ensure that client receives adequate support for her case.
  • Advocacy should be based on the empowerment model.

9.Secondary Advocacy

  • Liaising and advocating for Shakti as an organization (in the Auckland region) with various government departments, including Work and Income, Housing New Zealand, police and courts and ensure that client receives adequate support for her case.
  • Supporting the Shakti Funding Office with advocacy related work.

10.Attend professional and personal development trainings.

  • Regularly attend trainings organized by the Centre.
  • Regularly participate in supervisions for self-development.

11. Attend internal and external meetings relating to the Centre - Regular participation at internal and external meetings.

  • Meetings, Supervision, Training & Professional Development - Regular attendance at Supervision to ensure safe practice and client wellbeing.
  • Staff counselling services are accessed towards maintaining self-care.

 

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: -

- Work experience in the social service sector or Counselling sector and/or qualifications in Social Work/Counselling/Psychology/Sociology/Health science.

- Be passionate about working with women and children and ensuring their safety while promoting women’s empowerment.

- Have a fair understanding, empathetic and patient manner of working in a cross-cultural environment.

- Be excellent in spoken and written English language skills.

- The ability to speak one of the many languages spoken in Asia, India, or Africa will be a significant advantage.

- Have a full driving license.

- Have own vehicle.
